The Holistic Psychological Profile
If we really want to evaluate other people’s intelligence we need a holistic approach.
The term intelligence is too wide and actually includes all types of intelligence that exist. In order to characterize a person the simple statement that he/she is intelligent is not enough. A psychological profile is much more accurate if it evaluates the types of intelligence that describe the assessed person.
For instance, let’s analyze a hypothetical Mr. Adam, who:
- is an efficient businessman
- is persuasive and intuitive
- has a good command of English
- controls himself very well
- knows how to reason
- is an atheist
- smokes a lot
- who is not at all interested in art – which is considered a waste of time
- watches DVDs in his spare time.
The holistic psychological profile can describe more precisely Mr. Adam than just depicting him as being intelligent:
- Being an efficient businessman he has a high financial IQ
- As he doesn’t believe in God so that he doesn’t feel the need to give a spiritual meaning to his life
- A good self control is a sign of his high emotional intelligence
- Since he is persuasive he has a high communicational intelligence
- Given that he dislikes art his artistic intelligence is low. However this doesn’t make him less creative because he is a successful businessman.
- His organic or body intelligence is quite low because he smokes. .
