THE Psychology of Time Mangement
Time management seems to be something that most people don’t know about and i,ve try to touch on this.
Time management is a concept that appeals to every individual regardless the field of Endeavour and the psychology of it does not seek to control time itself, but your activities within each window of time.
Time cannot be controlled to meet up or accommodate all your activities or tasks. This is impossible. However, you can control how your activities or schedules move within a time frame.
So, what do you as an individual set in mind before managing your time?
- There is a satisfaction that derived from being in control of your activities and a desperation that comes from being out of control.
- Time management is the control of your own sequence of events
- You must begin to see yourself as a good time manager. Picture yourself in a mirror and imagine yourself a good manager of time.
- Your language also matters, affirm “I am well organized”, act as if – pretend to be a good time manager (fake it till you make it). Say it to yourself over and over again, even before you become totally in control.
Vital Time Management Techniques
- Take some minutes every day to read, reflect, review and THINK about what you are doing.
- True greatness starts from introspection, retrospection, solitude and evaluation of life activities- especially in the early mornings.
- Determine your goals and objectives: your goals must be clear, specific, measurable, attainable and time bound; start with your goals and walk back to the present.
- “He who fails to plan, plan to fail”, Plan daily, weekly, monthly, yearly. Plan over and over, develop blocks of time: short term, mid-term, long term.
3 hours of unbroken time is more than 4 days of distracted work. The best times are; 1 hour in the morning before going to work; 1 hour during break period and 1 hour after close of work.
- Use a to-do-list. It takes about 12 minutes per day to make a list but you save 10 times to 12 times the time to make a list, If possible make weekly plan (best on Sundays)
- Set priorities: (80/20 Rule). 20% of what you do accounts for 80% of your results (Pareto). Determine 20% of your activities that account for 80% of your results and give more time to them.
