What Did That Dream Mean?

I was sleeping in my bedroom when I suddenly opened my eyes. The room was still, my tiny nightlight gave its safe, steady glow, the radio played comforting music. I turned my head to the right, and on the other side of the bed stood our neighbor, Mrs. Rodney. She was draped in black from the neck down and standing so calm.

I felt a sudden, cold drop of fear down the middle of my back.

She seemed to realize suddenly that I was awake.

Her eyes darkened. She raised her arms, slowly. They were draped in black cloth. As she lifted them, they became hideous wings. Her teeth became fangs. I was a block of stone in my bed. I wanted to duck under the covers. I wanted to run. But I couldn’t, as her darkness enveloped my room.

Then, I woke up.
