Self-esteem is the collection of beliefs or feelings we have about ourselves, and these self perceptions can be formed through our environment, experiences whether good or bad, body image and even standards that we set too high for ourselves. Jesus came out of a bad environment when he came out of his hometown of Nazareth, in fact, Nathanial asked the question, can anything good come out of Nazareth? the answer to that question was yes because Jesus came out with a good and healthy self image, and because he is our perfect example, we can come out of our bad circumstances with a healthy self-esteem also. False beliefs occur because of negative thoughts and beliefs that one believes about themselves, so one must be careful who they let speak into their life. The greater the love and trust for another individual, the greater the belief of what that person says. How many children have reached adult status believing they would never amount to anything?or be anybody of significance because of what a parent or trusted loved one has said. We also believe ourselves more than anyone, so we must stay away from negative self talk because we can be harder on ourselves more than anyone. The standards that we set for ourselves can and must be balanced and achievable. Early in life children need to learn the importance of persistence until success happens, because to fail and give up may set one up for a mentality of failure which may lead to low self-esteem. One of the most important cures for low self-esteem is to know that God believes in you. The gifts and callings of God are irrevocable and because of Gods omniscience, he knew in advance that you and I were going to blow it at times, but he still believed in us to the point that he did not take his gifts talents and abilities away. He simply waits with patience on us to become what he knew we could become. Remember God believes in you so believe in yourself!
