What to Do After a Nightmare

This article is mainly for younger children. If you constantly are having dreams that are awkward then it is more of a doctor’s concern.

  1. Occasionally you may have a dream where maybe you cannot breath or something along this line. Sometimes if you have a strange dream about a toilet it can mean you need to use the bathroom. These sort of dreams are telling you that you need something like water.
  2. Maybe after an absolutely evil nightmare you will be stuck to your bed. Not literally, but you find yourself unable to move out of pure fear. The sooner you get up the better; the longer you stay in bed thinking about getting up the much more scary and harder it becomes.
  3. Simple and  obvious things like drinking a glass of water can help to calm you down. If you are struggling to calm down then it’s best to turn the lights on and listen to some uplifting music. Read a book or magazine, just make sure your mind is not still focused on the nightmare. To truly get your mind off it you have to be really involved in what you are doing.
  4. A nightmare could be trying to tell you something but it might be quite vague. Make sure there is nothing you have to do that you are worried about. If you are worried about it, then it’s best to get it done as soon as possible. But if it is on going thing like school that is bugging you then you will need to speak to somebody.
  5. Do not worry about getting back to sleep it is probably for the best. It is very unlikely to have the nightmare again in the same night. Unless the problem is as number 4. describes it.
  6. You may feel uncomfortable in bed, because maybe it is a bed you are not used to yet or your bed is generally uncomfotable. Get a new message or ensure before you get in to bed that you have made it as comfortable as your circumstances allow you.
  7. When you become around thirteen or fourteen years old it becomes rare that you will have a nightmare. When you do get a nightmare it may make you jump but it would not scare you like if you were a young child.

I had a nightmare that my cousin died. I got really freaked out; I actually cried. And im 13 years old. Does this nightmare mean anything?

I had a really odd dream, the end of which, had a bright flash of light, accompanied by a radio static-ish sound. It really scared me, to the point where I woke up screaming. Normally, things like this don’t scare me at all.
I am a 15 year old girl. Is this normal? Is there something wrong with me?
