Where Do You See Yourself in The Next Five Years?
"You are what you think the most."
I’m an avid reader of books about success, positive thinking, etc. In many of these books, they stress the invaluable importance of not only thinking about and writing down your goals, but also taking the time to truly visualize every single detail you want in your life – every detail to color of the curtains you want on your dream home to the values, character and morals you desire in the love of your life.
I once read, that “You are what you think the most.”
Have you ever noticed that top executives, entrepreneurs and the like always talk about the things they love, their accomplishments and the new things they plan on doing? They also are notorious for helping others through mentoring, being charitable and giving time to those who they love and admire.
On the other hand, the opposite can be true of people who tend to fall short of the dreams they sometimes speak about or have unfortunately completely forgotten about. I’ve noticed that these people tend to spend more time complaining about what they don’t have, other people, or their current aches and pains.
The law of attractions basically state that whatever you think about the most manifests in your life. Do you see why these two groups of people accomplish such dramatically different things now? Those who speak about their dreams and goals continue to take actions that reinforce their dreams. Those that speak otherwise keep adding people and situations in their lives that draw them away from those forgotten dreams.
With this knowledge in hand, which category do you honestly fall into?
Now…………. What are you going to do about it?
If you fall into the first category, you’ve probably already accomplished many of your goals. However, there are most certainly always new things you still wish you could improve or add to your life? Maybe five years from now you dream of finishing a second degree, or finishing a novel series, or learning a new language? Or, maybe you’d like to get married, start saving for your children’s college fund or learn more about wise investment choices?
Start setting your five year goals right now.
Without a map, it would be close to impossible to find a destination. But with a set plan and well-detailed goals every step you take will bring you that much closer to your destination.
Picture a start line in front of you and a finish line in the distance.
Even if you took baby steps, every step you take is one step closer to your dreams. Just keep stepping forward and you’ll eventually reach the finish line.
It’s up to you how quickly you want to reach it the finish line.
And, it’s up to you whether you stay on a fixed path toward this goal adding people and things in your life that will keep you on track or allow others to distract you and pull you away from your dreams and goals. Choose the first category of people to associate yourself with and you’ll be the happier and wiser for it.
Now……………. Take the time right now, to picture what you’ll find at the end of your finish line.
You can and ARE making all your dreams come true.

Set realistic goals and chances of success will improve. Once I take that first step the finish line gets a lot closer.

While I consider my self a ‘realist’, I see myself running a highly reputable and successful business… think it’s called Raven House Publishing!
Good piece.

Reading books on positive thinking has never had such a great impact on me as this article, guess because it has the gist of most of these books, the message is clear! But i do believe its easier said/read than done. So the re-reminders are inevitable. Bookmarked for re-reads!!

Very good post. Positive thinking cannot do any harm but it is important not to set up unrealistic goals which can lead to constant disappointment.

5
Number five denotes
Money, movement, material,
Meeting the cross section of society
It is a number which denotes
Vision and intelligence
As also observation
As well as accident
Steer clearly and you will know
Where you will be in five years,
I don’t know where I’ll be
My everlasting regards to thee.
Lovely
You’re more prolific
More calm
More imaginative
After all
So peaceful
You are calm
A wind
In a raging storm
The love of life
For many to follow
As a norm
Please do read

I am a motivational and self help book junkie! Thanks for this. About six years ago, my boss asked me where I saw myself in five years. I told him, in a joking kind of way, not really believing. I now lead exactly that life.
