Action Sammy’s Dating Tips: A Successful First Date

How to make the first date a success, having it lead to a possible relationship.

Just as first impression is always the most important and everlasting, you want to make sure that all goes well on the first date. How the first date goes will determine whether or not there will be a relationship. Therefore, it’s very important to take steps to ensure that the first date is a supreme success. Here are some things to consider:

Clothing and attire – Dress for the occasion. Be appropriately dressed. Check out the venue for the date first and wear what would be appropriate for it. For example, if the two of you will be spending time in an area by beach, a suit or evening gown would not be appropriate.

Go light on the perfume, make-up and cologne – Don’t wear so much perfume or cologne that your dating partner can smell you 50 feet away. A single light spray is all it takes for most perfumes and colognes to give a nice, reasonable scent.

Prepare a plan – Discuss on the phone or by email what you’ll be doing. Have a firm idea as to what he/she likes. Have an idea as to he/she likes to eat so that you can dine at an appropriate restaurant.

For guys especially – Treat her like a lady. Be chivalrous. Remember ladies first. Hold the door open for her. Pull the chair out for her. Help her with her coat. Let her order first. Let her talk first.

Listen – Ask question and show (not pretend) that you are interested to what your date is saying. The reason why you should not pretend to be listening because your date might end up talking more about him or her rather than making it a stimulating conversation. Among those topics that are great in date conversations are work, hobbies, books, music, movies, and sports. Do not talk or ask about politics, religion, and especially former relationships. Do not try to find out what makes the other person “tick”. If you sense a debate brewing, change the subject immediately. Look at them in the eyes – Eye contact spells out your interest and attention towards your date.

Have fun – Remember that the date should be fun. Don’t forget to laugh. Bring laughter into the conversation by bringing out your sense of humor through jokes. Make every activity light and happy. Do not tell any raunchy or racy jokes unless you’re positively sure he/she likes them. If you see that your date isn’t laughing at your jokes, don’t tell another one. (And, from me, personally, if your date doesn’t laugh at all, make sure that this is the last date!)
