Action Sammy’s Dating Tips: Signs That You Have a Possessive Lover

No one wants to feel like a possession. In a relationship, we want to be loved, not owned. True, we want to belong and feel cherished but we’re still human beings with our feelings and own lives. We want to be cared for but not like an object.

However, being loved by certain individuals can be costly and devastating. There are some who feel that when you’re in a relationship you belong to him/her. Your life is theirs. You have no life of your own. They feel that you are supposed to be with them during every waking second. They call it love but in all actuality, it is called possession and humans weren’t made to be possessed.

This author was once involved with a woman who felt she should be able to see him whenever she wanted, regardless of the time of the day. Now, luckily, most possessive types are usually nothing more than nuisances to their partners and at first, some of us just feel like it’s simply love going overboard. Give the possessive partner a little time, however, it can escalate into a big problem. Some possessive types have been known to completely shut their partners off from their own friends and families and some relationships with possessive types have been known to end tragically. That is why it is important to know the warning signs that your partner is beginning to view you as a possession.

1. Frequent calls/emails

Okay, in the beginning of a typical love affair, of course we like to frequently talk on the phone or send emails. Possessive types, on the other hand, feel the need to call you everyday and spend hours talking to you on the phone. This is how they start to take up your time and begin ensuring that you have no time for anyone but them. After a while, the calls and emails become even more frequent, sometimes with as many as five calls or emails a day to make sure that you’re not with anyone else.

2. They keep calling when you don’t answer

If, for some reason, you’re not able to answer your phone they tend to keep calling, often as up to every two or three minutes. Some people in relationships with possessive partners and have been to busy to answer the phone have reported picking up their cell phones and finding up to 20 missed calls on their displays in a span of only 3 hours.

3. They want to know where you were

This is by far the most common trait of a possessive partner and this is always an indication of future trouble. Possessive partners get jealous when you’re with someone else, even if the person is family or friend. And heaven forbid if you’re at a party and especially if you’re at a party with members of the opposite sex. Possessive partners want you to have no social life outside the relationship.
