American Idol Season 11: Aspen, Colorado Auditions

The Good: Aspen, Colorado may not have had the most talented pool of singers for this season, but it was one of the most beautiful locations to film American Idol. Throughout the show the camera caught some beautiful scenic views, and it was really amazing to watch the snow covered trees and mountains. There were some shining stars in the Aspen starting with Jenni Shick. This hyper girl was bouncing all over the place, and though she made it through to the Hollywood auditions she was more enthusiastic about kissing Steven Tyler on the lips then actually getting her golden ticket.  Next up was Richie Law. Richie stood out, because his voice sounded a lot like last year’s winner Scotty McCreery. If this contestant makes it to the finals America may experience an episode of de ja vu.  Haley Smith was another stand out at the auditions. This hippie girl looked like a throw back from the 70’s.  The judges were impressed comparing her to the likes of Joni Mitchell. Rounding off the best of the singers was Jairon Jackson. Jairon impressed the judges with not only his singing, but his song writing capabilities as well.  Jennifer Lopez seemed the most impressed calling him a real lover.

    The Bad: One contestant named Alana Snare, had a really stomach turning audition.  Alanna worked at a restaurant that had a really exotic specialty on their menu, Rocky Mountain Oysters.  For those of you who are not familiar with this particular dish, it is not a type of seafood.  I will spare you the details, but needless to say it would turn your stomach just like Alanna’s bad singing did to the judges.  Another semi bad performance was Lady Gaga wannabe Angie Zeiderman.  Angie decided to combine her audition for a Broadway musical with American Idol.  Her show tunes had Randy Jackson ready to send her home, but Jennifer Lopez gave Angie a second chance.  Angie’s rendition of Blue Bayou saved her neck, but she probably won’t make it far in the Hollywood auditions.

    The Ugly: Ugly really doesn’t describe the last audition of the night.  Magic Cyclops, (yes folks that is his real name), closed out the auditions in Aspen.  His bad British accent, along with his outrageous get up had the judges on high alert.  It was obvious this guy was going to be bad, and he did not disappoint.  The judges were so turned off they just walked off the set, and poor Magic, did even know what happened.

    Aspen’s auditions definitely brought some personality to American Idol, but all in all the show could have done a lot better in the highlights department. Next stop will be Houston, Texas tomorrow January 26, 2012. Stay tuned because Houston promises to bring the craziest auditions yet.
