Are Male Dating Advice Programs Worth The Money?

The internet might not be the best place for advice.

Talking to women and asking them out on dates has been something I was never good at.  Being a rational, analytical thinker that I am, I tried hard to piece together the reasons behind this problem.  I mean, if I could improve other areas of my life with advice and hard determination, why couldn’t  I do the same when it came to women?

Sitting at my computer one day, I decided to let the fingers do some walking and looked for dating advice on-line. What came up were loads of websites geared at turning weak, wimpy men into women magnets. Being the optimist that I am, I decided to purchase several of the programs.  I learned two important things:

FIRST, I noticed that all of these programs pretty much amount to extended pep talks.  They dangle the idea that it is possible to be more outgoing and successful with women,  but they always leave out in their marketing that the success of their programs largely depends on your determination to work hard.  When all is said and done, these programs tell you to talk more to women and be more social.  Even a High school math geek could have told you that!   No magic bullet for overnight success there, that’s for sure.

SECOND, and I think most importantly is that some of these programs devalue women.  I remember one program where it says specifically that it is OK stare at a woman’s breasts on the first date. In the words of one program: “a man can look where ever, the f@@k he pleases.”  Although there are some women that might respond favorably to that kind of bold behaviour,  the majority of women, I’m sure would prefer to be treated with class and respect.

Of course this is not to say that these programs don’t have any wisdom to share. There are some good programs out there such as Dr. Paul Dobransky’s, “The Secrets of Mature Masculine Power”, which I found particularly enlightening.  The key I think is to research the programs well. Usually, if the programs are authored by people with “Dr.” in front of their name, it’s a safe bet. Though of course, in this day and age, especially on the Internet, anyone can call themselves that.

Although I would not consider myself to be overly successful with women, I can pretty much speak from wisdom when I say that in order to find that special one,  you should focus on the present.  Make sure you stay connected with family and friends, keep a regular workout  plan, and attend church sometime.  Nurturing, mind, body and spirit will ensure that when she comes along you will be ready.  All the rest is gravy.
