I understand what Mrs M is saying. Another thought, what qualifies someone as a best friend, shouldn’t all friends be equal? This isn’t a glib statement, I have never thought of nominating any of my friends as ‘best’. Am I just a saddo? Are best friends peculiar to females? Do men have best friends? This is something I have never given a thought to before. By the way Mrs M, an excellent article.

I have a dear best friend who now lives in Spring, Texas. We’ve been best of friends since I was first year highschool and she was grade 5. She’s like a sister to me and I love her. But of course, my best friend for life is my husband whom I can share my innermost feelings, happiness, fears, hope, faith, sadness, and he’s always there to listen, support, and love me. This is a very interesting article! Keep it up!

I know what you are trying to say here, and I tend to agree with it. That special intimate relationship is something above (but not exclusive to) friendship. It is something altogether more. There are things that my wife knows about me, that NO-ONE else on this earth knows about me – including my parents and best friends.

A friend is something external to you – but that intimate special partner – you are so intertwined in many ways, that you are not really separate to each other – like friends are.

I think that the best type of husband is actually also your best friend. Over a life time of ups and downs you need both sides of a relationship to get you through.

I still have girl-friends with whom I can share everything - but if I had to spend the rest of my life with one human being it would be my husband.

Often I have joked about friends about who we would be left on an uninhabited island with. I have no doubt - it would be my husband - the trouble is they all say the same - my husband as they know he would house them, feed them and never see anyone short of anything - so I could my blessings.

My husband is my best friend and my best friend happens to be my husband.
