Building Trust Between Friends and Lovers
Do you trust him enough? Can she be trusted? How do you build trust between friends and lovers?
An encounter between people begins with a spark. That spark in itself can lead into some fruitful conversation and maybe even a couple of dates. But how the relationship unfolds depends solely on whether or not the trust factor kicks in. Trust can be a difficult thing to comprehend and behold. For some trust can become the make or break of any relationship. So how does one make trust an accomplice and not a hindrance?
Trust is defined by Webster as “the assured reliance on the character, strength, ability or truth of someone or something.” There are numerous people who come into new relationships harboring old garbage. That old garbage can include physical and emotional abuse, dishonesty, etc. just to name a few. Old garbage can be a hindrance when trying to develop a new beginning with someone else. So one should adopt a policy that when meeting someone new, give them a fair shake. Clean out some of the garbage from your other mishaps. Don’t judge them by your previous pitfalls or failures in other relationships. Be willing to start afresh. You could be missing out on something fantastic by wallowing in the old tragedies.
The bible states that we are not meant to live alone in this world. Many times, we allow our past experiences to determine our future. Yes, you may have been involved with someone who mistreated you or who dogged you out. You may have even dated someone who took you for granted or caused you tremendous pain. But that is when you have to make a conscious decision to not allow your past to predict your future or trample on your present. Look at each encounter as an opportunity to meet someone worthy enough to take you to another level. Someone who will lift you to new heights and not make you feel less than a human being.
Trust should be something that is inherently visible in the way two people interact with one another. Trust should be exuded in a couple’s interaction with others. People should be able to look at the two of you and know that you are in love with one another. Your relationship should not have a window of opportunity left open for people to question your commitment or trust with one another. Each relationship should provide a chance for growth. If you don’t learn anything from your past experiences, what was the purpose of you being there? Life is a continuous journey that provides opportunities for growth. Take on life with the attitude that you will meet someone worthy of your time and that will see you for the treasure that you really are.
Trust is something that can afflict any and all aspects of your life. Don’t allow one person or incident to ruin your ability to trust in life. Because once that trust is demolished, it can become a cancerous disease that can consume your whole life. Remember that people are human and to err is human. So just because one person has crossed that line of trust doesn’t mean everyone else will do the same.
Relationships are a treasure to behold and are an intricate part of who we are. It is important to value each relationship or encounter with the amount of trust that is warranted at the moment. Do not be afraid to develop a trustful encounter. By doing so, you can ensure that God will protect you from the foolishness that deceitful people will attempt to inflict upon your life.
