Can Men Really Love?

Where has the love gone? In our society of today, it seems that it’s every man for himself, when it comes to relationships. It seems as if love is handed out to the highest bidder or who brings the most to the table. No one wants to work to nurture or develop long lasting commitments.

Even as I look among those that are in Hollywood, and even in the religious community, the institution of marriage has been formulated into business deals, and spouses are traded as often as the stocks on Wall Street. It’s amazing to see that the very values that make this country great has been displaced for material gain and prestige. It seems to be all about image and less about love.

I’m a 39 year old man, who has been married to my wife for 18 years. I can say that we have experienced some ups and downs, but it has been a very rewarding relationship. She is my best friend, and my love for her continues to grow with each passing day. It didn’t all happen overnight, and it took years for it to come to this point through many challenges, but you have to be willing to work through it in order to make it.

I remember growing up in the “70s & “80s listening to music where a man expressed his unending love for the woman in his life. It was this type of music that permeated my soul and made me want to find that special one with whom I could share how I felt. Now our music is filled with so much about sex that it leaves out the key element of love.

Sometimes we as men get a bad wrap, but I do believe there are men left who seeks a very rewarding and loving relationship. Contrary to popular belief, men are very sentimental creatures through all the hardened exterior. We do want to be loved as well as to love. A man loves to receive gifts as well as give them. Most of all, the quickest way to a real man’s love is not through his stomach, nor sex, but through respect.
