The majority of people believe it’s important to marry their soul mate. That probably doesn’t surprise you, but what is shocking is that over half of those people are afraid that they’ll never find their one true love. But are you really limited to one amazing romance or can you forge an incredible bond with more than one person? The experts all believe the latter is correct, and that believing any different can damage your love-life.

Over a life-time you’re likely to fall in love a number of times. As you mature and change, so does the way you love. A person you feel is a soul mate at 21 may be entirely different to a person you think is The One at 40. This is why people rarely end up with their first love. As people change their willingness to settle down and ignore minor faults also changes. Finding your soul mate is as much about getting the timing right as it is about love.

The belief that a person is your soul-mate can actually stop you from finding the right person. Someone who you have amazing chemistry and passion with may not be the kind of person you really want to spend your life with. If you stay with that person you’ll miss out on meeting a person who just gets you and everything you are.

To find your soul-mate you have to let go of the fantasy. Mr or Mrs Right won’t be perfect and they may not be everything you hoped for, but they will make your life so much richer. Make sure you’re not setting unreasonable standards. Don’t rule out anyone just because they don’t fit all your criteria. Imaging the perfect soul mate is fun, but opening yourself up to new people is even better.
