by Aussie girls are in a class of their own and it would be a very brave ‘bloke’ to think he had a chance with an Aussie girl without first knowing the rules of engagement. Our home grown boys have been schooled by their Mums and Dads and whipped into shape by sisters, so they understand those rules well. However if you are planning to hook up with an Aussie girl overseas, or during a visit to the great brown land, there are a few tips you need to follow before casting a line.
As far as drinking goes Aussie sheilas are a bit like a chameleon – they adapt to their surroundings. At the pub they can guzzle a lager as quick as any bloke and last the distance just as well. At a picnic or a barbecue, or on a dinner date, sheilas like wine. Now do not even think of purchasing overseas wine. Australian wine is the best in the world and our Aussie girls know this. It has become fashionable to support New Zealand wineries, as a sort of foreign aid to our closest neighbours, but really an Aussie girl will always support ‘Australian made’. Do not even mention French wine, we wouldn’t feed it to the budgie! Sparkling wine (we still call it champagne) is for festive occasions and under moonlight on the beach. Hard liquor is for hard drinking and only indulged in at wakes, late nights at the club and efforts to quell an aching heart over a broken love affair.
We’re an egalitarian country – so be prepared to ‘have the Mick taken out of you’! Aussie sheilas are quick witted and treacherous when it comes to knocking their bloke down to size. We do not tolerate egos – at all. If you are looking for ‘the little missus’ give Aussie girls a big miss. They are your equal in every way and any attempt to assert superiority will be cut down with alacrity; and the Aussie Sheila has been practicising this since birth – you have no hope, don’t even contemplate getting on top of this. Take it in good humour and laugh at yourself for thinking you could get away with it. She will adore you whilst ever it is clear that you are in an equal partnership and you can have a sense of humour about it.
If you are thinking of dating an Aussie girl overseas you can be sure she is homesick at some level. Australia is the best country in the world and to have to leave it for anything other than a holiday is a supreme sacrifice. She will take every opportunity to tell you about her home and family and will probably shed a few tears if you allow her. You know you are ‘in’ with an Aussie girl if she has cried in front of you. You will increase your chances by comforting her and agreeing with her that she should never have left home and the protection of her father and brothers.
Aussie girls on holidays overseas are quite a different lot. They are not homesick, they are reveling in not having Dad and bros running protection for them and they are interested in having a great time. Do not translate this to ‘interested in jumping into the sack’. They laugh readily; they are game for sport of any sort; they are good company and interested in everything – after all they have saved for years and come a long way to get out of Australia which must be the most geographically isolated first world country in the world.
So if you are contemplating dating an Aussie – good luck. If you win her heart for a day you just might keep it for life – IF you stick to the rules of engagement.
