Dating Headlines
DATING HEADLINES.
“Life is not meant to be serious all the time so can I persuade you to bring some fun into my life?” This headline can be interpreted as someone who takes life seriously sometimes but would also like to have fun with a potential and attempts to appeal to the reader by saying that they will be fun to be with which is flattering.
“Life is a zoo in a jungle so do you want to get into my cage?” This is taking quite a profound statement and then making it light.. Some may see it as slightly provocative but others will see the fun in it and if they recognise the quote from Peter De Vries at its core then they’ll also appreciate the intellect.
“Bear needs keeper” is both challenging and appealing at the same time. The use of ‘bear’ associates qualities of strength and cuddliness with thsi online dater. It also shows someone who has a strong character but is open to being in a relationship where they sometimes give control to someone else.
“Have a seat! Comfortable? Good, let me introduce myself to you then…” This is a good headline because it talks directly to the reader, it’s very polite but actually very personal at the same time and it’s quite witty. Using the word ‘you’ and asking a question are both great techniques for drawing people in.
“Pick me, pick me” or similar is cute but can sound a little desperate. Add something to it to give it more punch maybe “pick me and let me make you laugh” However, either way it is preferable to “Straight faced toffee nosed miserable cows can search elsewhere…I need cheering up not winding up!” or “Timewasters can move on“. These indicate that these online daters may have some baggage and may not be great dating material right now.
“Looking for love”, “looking for my dream date”, “Searching for my soul mate” are overused online dating headlines and don’t tell your reader anything about you. You need to draw your reader in before you tell them what you want. The only positive of this type of headline is that it indicates your level of commitment; the downside is he/she might not believe you!
“Looking for love, friendship, anything” as above but even worse – are you not choosy? Obviously not!
“I might be the one you are looking for” is so overused and the answer I always think when I read this is “but you’re probably not” and research shows I’m not alone in thinking this! The headline is simply not appealing enough and may be considered lazy! Instead tell them why you might be the one they are looking for i.e. finish the statement.
