Fireproof – Did You Take The Dare?

The love dare.

I don’t know about you, but, I liked the movie, Fireproof.  No, let me rephrase that, I loved the movie.  It hit home.  Not that my marriage is bad, quite the contrary.  I have a wonderful husband, with faults.  He, has a wife, with faults.  Though Caleb and Catherine’s marriage had its bad times, you could still see something that was worth hanging on to.  Every marriage has it’s problems.  If you say they don’t, then I would probably call you a liar.  No, not the christian thing to do, but true.

I am wondering.  After seeing the movie, did anyone run out and purchase the love-dare book?  I wanted to the day I saw the movie at the theatres.  After renting it again, I still want to get the book.  Why?  I think it is worth the effort, every marriage is.  If it isn’t, why did you get married?  Pornography is a horrible thing, men and women can get caught up in it.  Lust of any kind, is a parasite, just like the movie says.  If  you let a parasite in, it is almost impossible to get rid of it.  You don’t let termites stay in your home, you don’t let your dog get worms, so why do we tolerate the things that get inside us?  We don’t feel it.  Huh?  Yes, I said, WE don’t FEEL it.  When they enter us, we don’t feel it or see it.  Others do.  The one you love is the one who sees it taking over, eating away at you, so to speak.  It hurts the ones we love and we are being so consumed by it, because it isn’t hurting us, it hurts them.  Lust comes in many forms, wives who stare at other men, flirt with them or lead them on, and husbands who look at women or dirty magazines, flirt with women, or lead them on, all forms of lust and in God’s eyes, it is just as if you cheated.  God is with you always, he can see you, even when your spouse can’t.

My point?  Is your marriage or relationship, worth the effort?  I just know, I have a anniversary of eight years coming up and the man I married is worth fighting for.  I won’t let any kind of parasite have my husband, not one now, or in the future.  I, for one want to keep what I have and make it better.  I may not be a model, not even close, but I am a good wife.  I love my husband, I am funny and I cook well.  My housekeeping skills may not be up to par, but my love for him is overwhelming.  He is a great provider and a wonderful father and husband.  Life isn’t perfect, but I believe we have misplaced our values.

I am going to purchase the book and begin a new year.  It is never to late to say your sorry and I’ll do better.  If you have to watch the movie once a week, do it.  My reationship is worth it, is yours?
