Five Fabulous Ways to Spice Up Your Date

Dinner and a movie? I think not! Make your date unique and unforgettable with these simple ideas.

Let’s face it – traditional dinner-and-a-movie dates are boring. If you want to wow your date and make sure that she’ll never forget the time you spent together, try these tips:

  1. Unusual transportation. When you take a mode of travel that you don’t use everyday, it automatically increases the romance factor. Try taking a horse and buggy tour around the city or sign up for a dinner cruise. Take a train or ferryboat to the next town for dinner. If you have the means, plan a hot air balloon ride at sunset.
  2. Foodertainment. Restaurants and other places that offer a unique or offbeat dining experience can create a lot of fun and conversation. Take her to a Japanese Hibachi-style steakhouse. Try a fondue restaurant. Some restaurants offer a large a la carte menu so that you can order a variety of small dishes to share around. Eat outdoors at a restaurant near the sea, lake, mountain or other scenic vista.
  3. Physical activities. A date will automatically seem more interesting if you are moving about. There are a wide variety of activities available, from skydiving to bowling, jet skis to darts, ice skating to billiards. The activity will give you something to do during gaps in the conversation while the interaction will give you chances to bond.
  4. Educational dates. Why not learn something together? Schedule the two of you for a beginning salsa or ballroom dance lesson. Try an interesting craft like stained glass making. Take her to one of the many ecotourism sites, historical sites and museums in your area.
  5. Isolated custom date. Sometimes it’s best to get away from it all. Pack a picnic lunch, candles, your guitar, blankets and anything else you’ll need to provide comfort and/or set the ambiance, and go out into nature – the beach at night is wonderful, as are forest clearings, any moving water or any other place that is devoid of civilization chatter. (Note: This is not recommended for a first date, as there may be safety/trust issues involved with being far from other people.)
