Friends as Good as Family
If you’re lucky enough to have real friends, tried and true to the end friends, then you don’t need to read this… unless you’ve ever taken them for granted or know someone not as fortunate as you.
Remember that movie ‘Sweet November’? Keanu Reeves falls in love with Charlize Theron, and later discovers that she is in the last days of her young life. For those of you who actually sat through this sappy chick flick (ok, so what I watched it ten times and counting? waddya gonna do, take my man card?), you know the story isn’t really about dying, it’s about living and the impact we have on other souls. Falling in love took Keanu’s character through a deep transformation that gave meaning to his shallow life. Even more touching was her relationship with her devoted gay friends.
Anyway, I watch this movie every November, sort of a tradition. It never gets old. And this November, I’ve decided that my Love contribution to the world would be Friendship. The kind that comes from deep down in my soul, does not judge, gives unconditionally, empathizes, safeguards the dignity of others, and smiles a lot. I will take my friendship to the next level. When I think of all the people who have participated in preserving my sanity, uplifting my spirits, cheering me on, and giving meaning to what would otherwise be a hollow life, this is the least I can do.
How ‘bout you?
