Friendship: the Quality and Meaning of a Relationship Between People

Is there a certain person in your life that you shared everything with and couldn’t wait to see them. It’s friends like this that are so rare and we need to let them know that even though life has gotten in the way.. we still think of them often.

The True Meaning of Friendship

There are so many people that come into our lives and once in awhile we even let them touch our hearts and become our friend.  We grow up with many friends but even at a young age there is always that certain someone that for whatever reason, this person is like no other.  They have not only touched our hearts but have the ability to brighten our day just by being a part of it.  They know when we are sad even though we are smiling.  They feel our joy and rejoice in it.  As time goes by, life just seems to get in the way and days are much too short.  While you try to fit everything into your busy schedule, it is this same person that ever so slightly crosses your mind in the midst of it all. This is something I read many years ago and have forgotten it until lately as I think of my best friend while growing up and want to share with you.

I do not remember who wrote it or even where I read it… just that I loved the way the writer expressed the true meaning of friendship.

Do not walk in front of me…As I will not follow.

Do not walk behind me…As I will not lead.

Just walk beside me and be my friend.

If you have someone that has walked beside you than you are truly blessed.  If for whatever reason life has gotten in the way and it’s been years since you’ve last heard their voice… then make that a top priority and get in touch with this person who has meant so much to you.  Although I would love to stay and chat.. I have to go now.. there’s an important phone call I have to make.  If your phone is ringing right now… it could just be me.

A very touching write. I recently got in touch with a close college friend through Skype. I had not seen her for forty years, but it was as if we had parted yeaterday, so I know what you mean.

Hi Karelee! How beautifully true your article is! :)
I really enjoyed reading it and remembering friends from the past whom I’ve lost touch with. Maybe I can find a way to locate them! :)

I have two really good friends who I’ve had for ten years, I’m really close with my sisters , and I’m really close to my mother. I spend a lot of time with this people and I love them very much but there are still things I keep to myself. I don’t know if I’m able to let someone know everything I’m feeling a bout everything in my life.

Don’t quote me on this, but I’m pretty sure the author’s name was Albert Camus. I’m kicking myself right now because I can’t remember the verses to the best frienship poem I have ever read. It goes something like..’Best friends are like diamonds, precious and rare, acquaintances false friends are like leaves, scattered everywhere..stick to ‘em cobber,(Australian slang for friend)cos’ they’ll stick to you..I wish I could remember it. Good article Karelee!
