Getting Money at a Young Age
A fast way for a teen to make money.
Babysitting is a classic job teens can do to earn money. In order to find a babysitting job, it might be best to start with people you know; your family or in your neighborhood. To increase ones chances of getting a babysitting job, it would be a really good idea to take a class in babysitting from a community college or from the American Red Cross; even better when this class includes CPR and First Aid training because that increases ones skill-set. Most importantly, a teen needs to enjoy being around children and realize the responsibility they assume when they become the babysitter. Taking care of kids can be difficult and you probably already know whether that’s a job you would want and would do well.
These days, teens might also be able to find a job helping other people with their pets, like walking someones dog or pet sitting, like babysitting. Dog walking can harder than it sounds depending on whether the dog is trained and the size and breed of the dog. You have to remember that when you’re walking the dog, you might need to clean up the poop too. One thing about pet sitting is that you might be able to make extra money by adding on additional services to just the pet sitting like bathing and grooming. Finding pet sitting jobs might be similar to finding babysitting jobs. It could be that someone in your family might hire you to do pet sitting and you could certainly ask neighbors. A teen could also ask people they run into when they’re out and they see people with dogs. If you had a business card, you could give them the card so they would know whom to call later after they thought about it. Like babysitting though, this is a good job for someone that already likes animals. One difference between pet sitting and babysitting would be that a teen could be hired to take care of indoor pets when the people are on vacation. These pets could include birds, rodents, cats, and other animals.
It is also possible that a teen might make money doing yard work for people, washing other people’s cars, or helping other people do housework like washing windows. A teen might be able to make money by offering their service to people to help them do all sorts of yard work that might include trimming, raking, assisting the owner by working along side them and doing odd jobs in a yard that someone might need done. The good thing about this is that a teen could use the owner’s tools to do the job. A teen could also ask people in their neighborhood if they would like their car washed or vacuumed. It would be best to determine a price for the work before you agree to do it. You might also be able to make money by asking neighbors or people in your community if they need help in the house doing things people often don’t like to do or do very often like washing windows. Sometimes people don’t want you to be inside their house so you offer to just wash the outsides of the windows. Again, you should determine a price for the work depending on the amount of work and whether the people are satisfied with the work when it is finished.
So there are things teens can do to earn money especially when they’re a little young to get a job in a store. Babysitting, pet sitting, and yard work are only three ways that a teen might earn mo to do is be creative and look for opportunities when they arise. I hope this was helpful. Earn your money!
