Heartache: Man’s Greatest Pain
As humans, our natural instinct is to protect ourselves from harm.
As humans, our natural instinct is to protect ourselves from harm. These natural instincts seem to go out the window when one begins to involve emotions. We meet what we believe to be the perfect partner; the person we are to spend the rest of our natural life with. We begin to live day to day in a fairy tale, gloating from place to place. We do everything to make life perfect for this one and only person, but suddenly this person fails to meet our expectations for the “perfect partner.” The reality hits, which causes us to open our eyes from this dream and see the truth that surrounds us. The inevitable has happened; the feeling of heartbreak.
“What is heat break?” – One might ask. It may not be an actual blood pumping organ failing, though it may seem like you have nothing to live for. Our once laughter filled days faded into pain and tears. The world is made up of millions of people, yet some how this one person had the capability to rip our heart out and drain us of all emotion. This one, lone person we were planning a future with made a decision that will forever change our life; but failed to include our input.
What was once a floating feeling is now a feeling of weight, a feeling of dread? Every step one takes feels like they are lifting shoes made of lead. The pain can be related to a knife stabbing over and over. The piercing pain does not subside even as you try to cry yourself to sleep. Talking about it only makes the pain grow.
So why is it not in human nature to protect themselves from this “heart-break”- the worst pain of all? We can only conclude that the experience results in a growth in our emotional development, and protects us more in the end.
