How to Elope
A guide to eloping on a budget.
In modern society, everyone is under a lot of pressure in their daily lives. Many couples feel that adding to that pressure with a wedding is a poor way to start off a great time in their lives. For this reason, many people have decided that eloping is a far preferable option to a traditional wedding but they have no idea how to elope on a budget and still have a magical experience.
The first step to a successful elopement is to determine where to elope. There are areas that have very loose marriage laws but they are few and far between. Most areas have a required waiting period before a marriage license can be obtained. By deciding where the elopement will occur, a couple can call the town hall of whatever city they have decided on and get the paperwork started. Until this paperwork has been confirmed, it is not possible for the marriage to happen.
There are many ways to still have a great wedding without the hassle of a traditional wedding. Eloping is a great way to still have a destination wedding without all of the cost of flying in hundreds of people. If certain members of a family must be present at a wedding, they can be given advanced notice as long as they will not let the cat out of the proverbial bag. A great way to save money is to travel to locations during their off peak periods. The flights and hotels in these periods are significantly cheaper.
Using off peak periods also has another huge advantage: options for the wedding itself. During high peak periods, the best buildings and locations will be fully booked. During the off times, not only will these places have open availability but will also be much cheaper. It is vital that facilities be reserved in advance though sometimes surprising things can be found at the last minute. A bride and groom must simply think outside the box to find that special thing that will make their wedding special. It might be as simple as getting married on a boat under Niagara Falls or free falling from an airplane over the Pacific Northwest. A budget does not mean a wedding has to be boring, it just means the participants have to be a little more creative in their use of money.
It is also important to contact a minister that can perform the wedding legally. If a couple waits until the last minute, they may find out later that their minister was not legally sanctioned to perform marriages. To avoid these problems, call ahead and book someone that is legally able to perform marriages in the area the elopement will occur. There is always someone available at the town hall that can perform these duties but most people that are eloping do not want something so impersonal. These can be good last minute options for a spontaneous decision to get married but most people that are eloping prefer a more traditional minister to perform the ceremony.
Finally, it is important to note that if a couple is getting married outside of the country means a couple will have to obtain a foreign copy of their marriage and then register with their home country. It is additional work and cost that must be considered when deciding on the final destination when they elope. The process for this is pretty simple in most countries but a couple must be prepared to fill out this paperwork in order to reap the benefits that come with being married once tax season rolls around.
There are many people that from upon couples that elope but in modern society it is a viable option that most people understand. This is especially true of members of the younger generations. There are a lot of factors to consider such as location and amenities but the process is far less stressful than that of a traditional wedding and requires far less forethought on the part of the bride and groom. With a little creativity, any elopement will have a lasting memory and provide everyone present with a great experience that will be talked about for years to come.
