Is a Separation From Your Spouse Healthy?

It’s said distance makes the heart grow fonder.

About a year ago I was listening to the local radio station and there was a couple on there that had been married for 62 years. When asked what kept them together the lady responded we seperate ever couple of years. I was shocked, looked at my husband and told him to not even think about it. I couldn’t even imagine seperating from him just because things may spice up a bit. I mean, what ever happened to lighting the candles, having a pic nic, or just cuddling on the couch to spice things up. Trust me any of those options would work. That’s still how I feel, but I have a better understanding for the lady that gave that for a response. About six months ago my husband and I did split for about three months. It was the hardest and most painful three months of my life. Regardless of the pain, I understand it because after my husband and I got back together it was amazing, like we were dating again. We weren’t so in tune with each other that it seemed we knew everything about eachother so we enjoyed learning new little things about eachother. I still wouldn’t want to make the split again, so every couple years still seems bizarre! The one time split was enough to make me know I don’t want to spend one day without my husband by my side.

I know a happily married couple that in the course of the year take enough seperate vacations that they are usually separated for about 2 months each year.
