Is It Love or Only Infatuation?

It can mean butterflies in your stomach, distracting daydreams at work, X-rated fantasies with swelling soundtracks you wouldn’t even share with your shrink. We’ve all been there.

When your eyes first catch sight of that unattainable “perfect” man, that lust adrenaline cocktail hits you hard.  It can mean butterflies in your stomach, distracting daydreams at work, X-rated fantasies with swelling soundtracks you wouldn’t even share with your shrink.  We’ve all been there.

If your feelings for him make you dizzy and leaves you confused, you may have to slow down and step back.  It might be infatuation and not true love.  To know and understand the difference between love and infatuation, you have to examine what you feel.  According to Dr. Richard Levine, a feeling of insecurity marks infatuation.  “You are excited, but not genuinely happy.  It’s a bond or attachment that is not entirely based upon reasonable perspectives.  It is often accompanied by the suspension of rational decision making,” he says.

If you find that everything regarding your situation about this man is unpredictable and keeps you off balance, you may be headed for trouble.

Would you choose to remain longing from a distance because this dream of perfect love is unsullied by grim relationship realities, or are you ready to see and accept the disgusting habits, commitment problems or even preexisting relationships? There is only one way to find out.  By the time you get to know him well, he could also be smelly, have episodes of rudeness, or even the dumbest man on the planet.

Dreaming alone does not deliver goods.  So here’s the dilemma. Should you go for it or forever hold your peace?

Good write, although as a man feel unqualified to make any judgement, for I’ve always loved women but never understood them.
