Kissing Customs Around The World
Discover how other countries kiss, and find out where it is illegal to kiss in public. It is different everywhere!
Have you ever wondered if people from other countries kiss one another like we do? Are there places where kissing is taboo? Here is a country by country breakdown of foreign kissing customs and beliefs.
Kissing In France
The French are known for romance, and they have always been big on kissing. Men kiss women, men kiss men, everybody kisses in Europe, that is the way the French say hello. A kiss on each cheek is the proper way to greet someone. This includes the workplace, and starts with a quick kiss on the right cheek, followed by another on the left. If you kiss only one cheek, that will indicate a romantic interest in that person.
Kissing In Italy
Italians keep the kissing in the family, and for close friends. No set rules, but only for people that have a close relationship.
Kissing In Belgium
The number of kisses depends on a person’s age; give three kisses to people older than you, but they must be ten years older. Only one kiss to people your own age.
Kissing In The United Kingdom
Brits tend to be a bit shy and reserved, and “snogs” are given in families only. Handshakes are preferred over kisses.
Kissing In Malaysia
Don’t kiss here; couples caught kissing in public will get fined up to $75.00 , with the charge of indecent behavior.
Kissing In Nepal
These people consider kissing dirty, and do not kiss at all. It has always been taboo here.
These are just a few fun examples to show how different cultures view kissing, and it can be a social disaster or worse if you don’t follow the customs, or laws. So, before you pucker up, you better read up on kissing for that particular country, before landing a “big one” on the wrong person!
