Letting Go

Sometimes it’s very hard to do just that.

It takes a lot of courage to let go of something that will change your life. Maybe it’ s a relationship that has run its course, but there is still something there. Is it guilt at leaving that person, or is it a feeling of loyalty that stops you from doing it?

You may  not love them any more, but you still care about them, that feeling takes longer to go, and it’s not easy to devastate someone’s life, when you know they don’t want to break up. You keep thinking about how you can tell them, what you will say, and the more you think about it, the worse it gets.

Sometimes the only way to get through this is to make yourself ruthless. Put yourself first, and think what it’s doing to you, how it’s upsetting you, being with someone you no longer love. Think of all the reasons why you are moving on, what they have done to lose your love, and think of how nice it will be to be free of them.

Now if your pity for them has turned to righteous indignation  for yourself, then it’s time to do the deed. You might feel bad dumping them at first, but when it finally hits you that you are free of them, you will breathe a sigh of relief and get on with your life, knowing it’s the best thing for both of you.

They may not thank you for it, but when you  are both in the right relationship and can  look back , that’s the time you will realise you did the right thing.
