Love and Friendship

I have read an article on friendship, and I have taken down the following: “In the hours of distress and misery, the eyes of every mortal man turn to friendship; in the hour of gladness and conviviality, what is our want? It is friendship. When the heart overflows with gratitude, or with any other sweet and sacred sentiment, what is the world to which it would give utterance? A friend.” I think that we share the same feeling with the author, and know that it is a treasure in our life. However, do you know what friendship is?

Friendship is the flower blooming, opening the hearts of you and me with its fragrance. In the depths of our soul, we bless each other. Friendship always warms our hearts. Friendship is a sentimental bridge, with which we can communicate, work and enjoy life together. When the bridge connects our hearts, we become close friends. Friends will occupy most of our thinking and emotions in life. The essence of friendship is equality. Friendship is not a gift that can never be achieved by unequal power. It has no relationship with money and power.

Friendship requires equal efforts from both sides, which leads to mutual understanding and trust. I think that all of us can gain it by our efforts, so long as we want to put our heart into it. This is a world full of people, and we cannot live alone. Further, without friendship, we cannot have a full and healthy life. Therefore, friendship means a lot to us. In my opinion, it is necessary for us to know the basic requirements to gain it. As Socrates said, “Don’t try to win a friend by presenting gifts. You should instead contribute your sincere love and learn how to win others ‘heart through appropriate ways.”

The fundamental friendship proves mutual love, understanding, trust, common interests. We share feelings and thoughts with our friends. The pretend friendship finds no sharing of feelings to maintain it. Friendship is not to be manipulated and calculated by us. If we feel that a friend is made in the term of “utilization”, friendship will come to an end. The termination will not be graceful, for friendship cannot be traded. Men and women can be friends; an adult and a child can be friends. Even husbands and wives also can be “friends.” Friendship needs careful cultivation, pruning and care. However, friends can become your exclusive private property, with which you can share your happiness and sorrows with the others. Friendship is a kind of interpersonal relationship, which may be from the conflicts with the others. “Friendship is almost always the union of a part of one mind with a part of another; people are friends in spots.” We share with each other about our hobbies, feelings, etc. The interpersonal relationship bear great importance in our life.
