Love or Compatibility or Both
In my years of failed relationships and lots of I love you’s, I am baffled.
Some tend to think that love binds a relationship. Others don’t. Its almost to say that take all other factors and throw them away, and a relationship will work with only love. I find it hard to believe that
What is love exactly? There hasn’t been a most definitive answer for this century old question but i think i have been made to understand that love is giving of yourself, to make another happy no matter what by putting them first.
Humans are made up of personalities which in turn mean, there are several things that we do, say, like or think sub-consciously that makes up who we are. We certainly don’t get along with everyone and certainly we don’t like everyone except if maybe we are God. We can surely try to get along with everyone but it’s hard, because it’s not only your efforts that have to be taken into consideration, but the other person’s as well, so it does takes a bit of compatibility or cohesion between you and someone else to get along.
Given both sides of the love or compatibility coin, i think it suffices to say that we have established that to love is to put others first to make them happy, and to get along with someone, we certainly must be able to be around them without contention.
Ask yourself, can a relationship work without love? then ask yourself, can a relationship work without compatibility?. I think your answer would be the same as mine.. No a relationship cant work without either of the two. What baffles me about many of today couples, is the inability to see that there isn’t love or compatibility and don’t know when to call a relationship off and stop hurting each other.
I think we all should be more cognizant of the signs and know that a simple “I Love You” doesn’t fix everything. We should also know that compatibility alone doesn’t solve the problem, because compatibility without happiness will only lead to frustration just as love without compatibility does. Which one of the two should be more influential?
That’s up for grabs.
