Marriage Free Relationships Seem to Last Longer

So we all know that the divorce rate is astronomical. We also know that celebrity relationships hardly last. So how about those celebrity couples who evade the divorce rate and last for decades? Is staying unmarried the answer? The late Farrah Fawcett has had much light shed on her career and battle with cancer since her death. What we have rarely heard about though was the long lasting romance with actor Ryan O’Neal. The couple met in 1981, O’Neal was actually one of Farrah’s first husband’s friends. The couple lived together for 17 years and have been off and on again since. That totals 28 years together. Just days before Fawcett’s death, O’Neal asked Farrah to marry him and she accepted.

Another couple who has made it for nearly three decades without tying the knot is the beautiful Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel. The couple met in 1983 and had a son together three years later. In an interview with Jonathon Ross, Goldie explained why the prospect of marriage for her isn’t likely. “I wake up every day knowing I can walk out at any moment”, she said. “It [that knowledge] that keeps things fresh.”

Hollywood’s A list couple (and might I add the sexiest) Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt met in 2004 while both filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith. While the couple didn’t officially announce their relationship until 2005, rumors state that their affair is what caused the breakup of Pitt and former wife, Jennifer Aniston. This couple has been together since, making it “officially” 4 years-uncommon in Hollywood relationships.

Actress and former model Charlize Theron has been with Irish actor Stuart Townsend for eight years now. The couple has publicly stated that they were not interested in marriage or at least until it is legal for homosexual couples to marry.

Whether it is the obligation (as Hawn talks of) or the other expectations of marriage, divorce at times, seems invevitable. Studies show that all marriages have less than half of a chance to survive and usually have a duration of seven years. These couples may have the key to a successful relationship-stay marriage free.
