Matters of the heart

The heart beats surging oxygenated blood through the vessels ,feeding and revitalising the organs of the body. It beats independant of conscious thought, we trust in the fact that it is doing its job .
I wonder if this is why when it comes to love and relationships , that these human experiences are referred to as matters of the heart. Is it that for a relationship to work there has to be that same level of knowing and trust that all is working and that you can get on with what life calls you to do comfortable in the knowledge that the heart beats on.
Yet we all know that if we live an unhealthy lifestyle and mistreat ourselves, that the heart may fail us. I cant help but wonder if the era of fast food ,materialism and stress that we live in, may also correspond to the number of people out there seeking and not being able to find or maintain healthy relationships.
As we forget to look after the physical heart , we also can forget to look after the symbolic heart.
Guess we always know in our heart when things are right or wrong , its wether were willing to make the changes necessary to get that trusted beat back again.
