Mother-In-Law Etiquette

A final solution to that pesky mother-in-law problem.

You married the man of your dreams. He’s gorgeous, he washes the dishes, irons his own shirts and never forgets to take out the garbage. There’s just one not so little problem, his mother can’t stand the sight of you! But don’t lose heart, these handy tips will have your mother-in-law singing your praises for years to come.

  1. Acknowledge that she’s the expert

Next time your mother-in-law criticizes you, don’t get mad, just nod your head and smile, or better still, take notes and schedule a weekly progress meeting with her. She won’t be able to resist the temptation to critique and grade your abilities as a wife and mother. Your mother-in-law will be overwhelmed by your willingness to learn from the master and she may even cut you a break. For even better results, consult your mother-in-law on every minute detail of your life. Call her up on the telephone every twenty minutes and ask her questions like, “What’s your opinion of dish rags?” She’ll soon realise that being the expert of all things domestic isn’t as much fun as it once was and I guarantee she’ll think twice before criticising you in future.

  2. Ask her for tips on how to please your man

Every mother-in-law believes that no mere mortal woman can love her son as much as she does. So call her on it and ask her for tips on how to please your man. Sob openly as you tell her how you feel like a failure whenever her son falls asleep after just three minutes of love making. After all, her son deserves nothing less than a love goddess, right? This one act will give you months of blissful, mother-in-law free, existence because I can guarantee you, the woman will avoid you like the plague.

  3. Kill her with kindness

Do all her chores for her and perform every task that gives her life meaning and keeps your dear mother-in-law young and vital. After just a week or two of not lifting a finger, she will lose the will to live (and they can’t prove a thing in a court of law).

That is some very good advise. I had a mother-in-law-and,I am a mother-in-law so I should know. You aslo have a good sense of humor and that should carry you a long way with your mother-in- law. Take it from me we appreciate small mercies.
