My Husband Beats Me, What Am I to Do?
Domestic violence has been around a long time. Mine is a personal story. May it help someone or save a life.
Domestic Violence has been around this world for quite some time. In history, we look at the King who falsely accused his Queen of adultery, incest, and treason, not to mention she could not give him a male child. He had her beheaded. Why did he do this? He must have wanted another wife who was ”better” and “prettier”. Today we know the male determines the sex of a child. To Hades with the Religion He knew He had to follow or be ousted from his throne. This was King Henry Vlll and Anne Boleyn. Then we remember King Louis XVl and Marie Antoinette. Treason was her crime. As a survivor of Domestic Violence, a horrific thing that happened to me was in 1984. My daughter and I were kidnapped by a man on drugs and tortured. God must be One of justice for this man was beheaded in a car accident far away from us many years after she was an adult.
I was working as a nurse in another state and she sent me the most beautiful Mother’s Day card with his obituary inside. She could not understand why no one mentioned his dark side in the newspaper. It took me about one year to recover in intense therapy. This man had been a known” wife beater” and child abuser. His own Mother would have nothing to do with him. May God have mercy! One who has never had their ear drum ruptured by a slap or their nose broken by their spouse(who promised in vows to honor and love you), cannot understand. The emotions and words so powerful made to make one feel and believe they are “less than” are inexcusable. Men who dishonor their mothers( who risked her life and health to give them theirs) seem uneducated and uncaring. Wait until they become fathers. Most of the time, abuse is a learned behavior, as is good parenting.
Truth and age appropriate lessons help. Cultures who believe women are property are base. Adultery causes so many diseases, not to mention jealousy. Does the media tell us about these? When a man or woman is under the influence of drugs or alcohol in excess, they may not even remember what they did. It is called a “black out”. Scientists have found a gene for alcoholism. Drunks may act “funny”, but it is no laughing matter when one has an automobile accident and hurts your family. A man who beats a woman will hurt children, and sometimes pets and animals. Dating is important for this is a time when truth comes out. The longer the better. People who abuse need help to break to cycle of abuse, not a magic pill, or self-medicating.
Life is more important than things. Get help. Take a set of extra keys, your identification, and children and leave in the middle of the night going to an emergency room if need be. Domestic Violence is on the rise. Suicide and homicide are forbidden in my religion. Remember, there are still good people in this world. You do not have to be” less” or be “less than”. Today I am called “disabled”. It is from domestic violence. I am a true and gifted survivor.

I also came from an abusive relationship before. It’s really hard to move forward at times. Even after 19 years has passed it feels like it was yesterday. Between flashbacks and trying to trust people is hard to overcome. Thanks for being brave and sharing your thought!
