My rules for a happy marriage

The rules my husband and I live by. We have been married 23 years.

In this day and age…A lasting marriage is not normal. My husband and I seem to be in the minority. We have been married for 23 years, and still counting.

We have for the most part a good marriage. Of course all marriages have difficulties. It just depends on how you deal with them, whether your marriage lasts or not.

So here are the things we have done to keep our marriage going:

  1. Be friends first and foremost.
  2. Be honest.
  3. Learn to communicate.
  4. Remember to be different.
  5. Agree to disagree. No two people feel the same about every subject.
  6. Sex is not the entire marriage.
  7. Let each other be themselves. Don’t try to change one another.
  8. Trust is very important.
  9. Compromise when possible.
  10. Remember that men and women can be just friends. So allow your spouse to have the friends they want.
  11. Have a sence of humor and have fun
  12. Hold hands.
  13. Say I love you…and mean it.
  14. Don’t go to be angry.
  15. Be supportive of your spouses hobbies.

I wish everyone could have a good marriage. You just have to keep trying. A marriage takes work, from both parties to work. Marriage takes a lot of maintenance.
