Online Dating for People Over 50

Okay, I think most of us have heard of the many online dating services and perhaps some have actually tried several sites – some with good results and others perhaps with not-so-good endings. Now, there is a new site which caters to those people over age 50…really?

Okay, I think most of us have heard of the many online dating services and perhaps some have actually tried several sites – some with good results and others perhaps with not-so-good endings.  Now, there is a new site which caters to those people over age 50…really?

A study has just been completed wherein the the U.S. Census Bureau has concluded that nearly 1/3 of the population of baby boomers are single.  Thus, a new online dating site has been designed, and implemented to “help” these people find another single who shares the same interests and who would make the perfect partner for more serious or romantic relationships.  Apparently the idea of heading out to the local clubs and bars is not a viable option.  So, these “older people” need a place to find that special someone, as those weekly bingo outlets and bridge crowds just are not so appealing – well, no kidding!

Online dating has come a long way from when it first began to be popular in the 1990’s.  These dating services are actually one of THE fastest growing ways for mature individuals to meet others with similar likes and interests.  So, are the baby-boomers finding love or are they playing games and dilly dallying with failure? Apparently, neither is the answer as studies show that this age group is very successful in their endeavors. The statistics show that one in five couples who were married in the last 5 years, actually met one another on the Internet!

Those who have been successful in their quest to find a relationship feel that this manner of “search” allows people to learn and know some of the basic interests, likes and dislikes before deciding to invest more time or effort in that particular person.  Additionally, these same studies have proved that communicating online before meeting someone in person significantly reduces the stress in that “first date” which in turn leads to a more positive “blind date.”

The process of signing up consists of creating a profile which includes pictures and certain preferences regarding the person they are searching for.  Then, the new member provides a description of themselves and what type of relationship they are seeking.  With the simple click of your mouse, instantly, photos and profiles are made available for that perfect match!  The new member, along with other members are able to view and sort through pictures and profiles of other over 50 singles you are interested in; the ability to send emails and to monitor others who have been viewing your personal profile and who have shown interest!

I would hope that names, contact information and the likes are kept confidential and that someone screens those who sign up and participate for this type of site.

While this “service” would not be of interest to me personally, even if I were in this age group, the research has shown that these baby-boomers are quite honest about themselves and the information they provide and share.

So, in conclusion apparently these individuals are trying to be honest rather than disingenuous when creating online profiles to find that next true love in life.  So, would you try this service and how successful would you feel you would be?  I just have to give serious thought to the safety of sites like this and how secure they are and who does background checks on those who sign on and sign up or if they do actually have designated and mandatory background checks.  Hm-mm

Interesting but I don’t know about it for me. I am a baby boomer, though, so I qualify!

Definitely the online dating sites have come a long way. Eharmony is discriminating though as they only accept people who have never been married. If you are separated or divorced you can’t sign up. And you have to fill out a long survey before you find out you can’t do it.
There are so many different dating sites out there now. It definitely helps many people find someone when maybe in the past it would have been harder to meet someone. And photos definitely help you get more love interests.

Online dating sites have become popular for both the young and old. I’ve seen the 50 and older dating sites advertised on television. A good majority of men don’t want a serious relationship. They’re most likely divorced and on the rebound just playing the field and aren’t looking to settle down any time soon since they already have a family of their own.
