Online Relationships : The Real Glitches

Going very deeply in an online relationship from a close friendship to love to a final break up, I have some realizations of where the problem remains in an online relationship. I have dealt with this topic earlier too in my article ‘Online Relationships : Problems’. Here, I share some more critical issues for others to learn something from my bitter experiences.

Language

Written words are the most common mode of communication in an online relationship. Hence, their meanings and perceptions about them decide the quality and fate of the relationship. All are neither equally conversant with word meanings and their depths, nor have same perceptions of these. So many of us don’t even take their words seriously. Yesterday, a friend addressed me as ‘my dearest’. Later, I came to know that this was her casual way of addressing. If I had taken it seriously, as being unique and the dear-most in her mind, I would have been totally wrong.

On Internet, most of the persons use words without understanding their essential values and don’t take their own words seriously. For anybody being serious about language and words, Internet relationship shall prove to be highly damaging.

Sacrifices

Every relationship needs some sacrifices from both of their individual freedoms and past linkages. This is not an easy task, not equally cared for by all. If one is serious in sacrifices, and the other is not, then there has to be a havoc in the relationship, sooner or later. Therefore, each in the relationship needs to sacrifice only when the other is ready to make a comparable sacrifice.

Offline Life

Every one being involved in an online relationship has his/her offline life essentially. And this may be counter to the online relationship being healthy. Let us say, if somebody wants a sexy online relationship, he/she must be having some relationships of this type in his/her real life too.   

When to Go on

An online relationship is desirable and practicable only when the two have a real possibility of meeting each other in real life in a near or foreseeable future. If that possibility is non-existent, I strongly recommend not to enter an online relationship without being extremely careful about the other’s intentions.
