Release Through the Game of Flirting
The age old art of flirting is as good today as it was fifty years ago. Why? Because being in a relationship doesn’t prevent this expression of human emotion. But, why flirt?
While both men and woman will make prolonged eye contact to show that they are interested, a woman will often lick her lips which bring attention to the mouth. If someone is staring at your lips it often means that they are thinking of how to kiss you.
Put together, both men and woman partake in mirroring; tending to sit or stand in the same position, or even picking up a drink at the same time. When one of you leans in the other will do the same if they like what they see. The thought behind this is that we are drawn to those who are like us. We also tend to point to the objects of our longing. This can mean hands, feet or the entire body, will subconsciously be pointed towards them opening up a line of physical, and verbal, communication.
Yet through all this, flirting does not necessarily mean sealing the deal. Flirting can be a mechanism that we use to get what we want for nothing, or a comfortable and fun way to meet new people. It’s certainly not reserved just for those who want to date. Married people flirt without any adulterous thoughts or intentions, and platonic flirting happens all the time. Flirting opens the window to opportunity and wonder at what might happen, but it also enables us to just walk away with no harm done.
