Rich Man, Poor Man Part 3: Hollywood Years
The life and tragic end of a billionaire.
In hollywood, Hughes lived the typical swinging showbiz life. Most of the films he produced were financial success – one even won the first Osacar Award for Best Director. By the time, he was married; yet he dated many famous actresses. This prompted his wife to leave him and file for divorce.
In July 1936, Hughes struck and killed a pedestrian named Gabriel Meyer with his car. The initial police findings was that Hughes was driving while intoxicated. He was released, however, when the only witness to the incident, who originally said Hughes was at fault, changed his story.
In July 1937, Hughes married again, this time to actress Jean Peters.
