A recent survey suggests good looks are important, but there are other qualities which make up the truly perfect partner. So if you’re giving yourself a dating makeover any time soon, it may pay to review these features, voted as highly desirable in a partner.

• Give and take features uppermost: having plenty of your own interests but being interested in theirs too. Giving each other space while still making special time to be together. Being caring but not overwhelmingly clingy. And having plenty of give and take in the area of friends and family; even if they aren’t your cup of tea, it pays to respect your partner’s need to have them around and keep schtum when they drive you nuts.
• Having a bit of money is nice, but few respondents consider income more important than a partner’s desire to be good at the job they have. So even if you’re not a high achiever, simply getting satisfaction in doing what you do, and doing it well, is an attractive trait.
• A relaxed attitude to sex and matching sex drives is rated high on the list of partner compatibility. More than half of those surveyed considered being a good lover either vital or at least pretty important, with a measly four percent saying it didn’t matter at all.
• High up on the list, understandably, is loyalty. So if you stray or don’t see the problem with having a few ”outside interests” you automatically slip down the roll call of most desirable partners.
• Next in the making yourself a dream partner is the matter of a sense of humour. You may think you have one, but could you chill out even further and maybe see the funny side of other situations that once would have you boiling over?
• Romantic surprises, even the little ones, also feature on the list that make a partner perfect. It doesn’t have to mean a grand plan or loadsa money spent, but simply a gesture to show you care. And not a one-off!
• While most of might assume a good body is high up on the list of desirables, actually an intelligent outlook is so much more of a turn on to most of us. Sure we like to be seen with someone who looks nice, but there has to be more to it than superficial appearances.
