Ok, let’s take a look at a few examples, which are based on true stories.

1st Online Dating example

Picture the scene; a man receives an email, from a young single lady, who looks nice and sounds great in her online dating profile.  They exchange a few emails, and seem to get on really well in ‘cyberspace’.  In fact, so well he can hardly wait to meet her.  They decide to exchange mobile numbers, and chat and text quite frequently, then organise when they are actually going to meet each other for the first time. 

He is nervous; she seems so perfect, everything he is looking for.  The big day arrives and they meet in a coffee shop in a local town.  As soon as he meets her, the man feels a huge sense of disappointment, she looks older than in her photo, and actually, he thinks she must have gained a little bit of weight since the picture was taken.  Also, her manner and the way she was conducting herself was so different from what he had visualised.

He tries to chat but feel awkward and is trying extremely hard to focus on what she is saying, rather than judging her.  All he can think about is what a waste of a month of emails, text messages and phone calls.  The guy stays for an hour which seems like the longest hour of his life.  Then they say goodbye, later he knows he has to let her know that he doesn’t want to see her again, but how?  The man ‘chickens’ out and sends a short but polite email.  The whole experience is exhausting and soul destroying, never again!  He is not a shallow man, but needs to feel some chemistry and an attraction to the person he is with and feels that he was deceived by her.

2nd Online Dating example

A 45 year old lady is trying online dating for the first time.  She doesn’t know really what to expect and because of her friends’ encouragement, decides to give it a go.  She completes her profile and within 48 hours, she has been inundated with emails from men that seem very keen to chat via email, some want to meet, others want to swap mobile numbers.
