The Hiking Trail
Sometimes we get confused after a break up in a relationship. We’re disoriented and wonder what to do next with our lives. We may even have a question or two that go unanswered for years. It’s my hope that clarity, perspective and insight come to each reader who sees themselves somewhere in the “Hiking Trail” story.
G.E. McClellan.
Imagine yourself at the bottom of a majestic mountain standing where a trail head begins. It will be filled with the smell of pine trees, scenes of wildlife, running creeks, and crystal clear skies. You have your backpack strapped on, and as you’re getting ready to begin the trek, it’s as if you hear the voice of God saying, “Come on up! It’s going to be incredible here at the top! I canʼt wait to see you!” So, off you go. Filled with excitement and energy, you start your journey alone with a sense of adventure, joy and expectation. As you’re hiking, it does not take long before the journey gets monotonous and lonely. It’s still very beautiful, but you’re realizing that you long for companionship.
By day eleven on the trail, you hear some voices and realize there are people up ahead. As you catch up to the group, you notice there are guys and a few girls your own age. You find yourself immediately drawn to one girl in particular. She is extremely attractive. She has beautiful hair, radiant eyes, and a clear-fresh smile. You can’t seem to take your eyes off her. Some time goes by and you find yourself walking right next to her as the other hikers in the group move on ahead. You and this beautiful girl fall back as you talk and get to know each other. You are finding out that this person is fascinating, funny and you have much in common. The journey now has become incredible again.
After a few days of walking together, you and the girl become hiking partners. One day, while hiking along, you notice a small trail that veers off from the main path. You both follow it and find it leads to a beautiful lake area that was overlooked by the others in the group. You and your friend are so taken over by its beauty, you decide that you should stay a few extra days and simply enjoy this newly discovered nirvana. You make dinner that night. You build a campfire and set up camp. You both feel like something’s happening. “Amazing” is too small a word to describe how you feel that evening. While gazing at the stars and talking around the campfire, you realize together you have found something incredible.
