The Tragedies of Broken Relationships

A composition I made during my high school years. =)

In the poem, “The Hill Wife” by Robert Frost, a young couple was wed. The man’s reason of such a relationship was love, but the woman’s was adventure. In the end, the tie was broken. The woman fled from her vow and left the man heartbroken.

A relationship is a bond between two or more people. Relationships are serious matters. They are priceless. They can’t just be treated like toys. They cannot be played with like how the hill wife played with hers.

Every now and then, relationships are made. But every now and then, too, relationships are broken. Matters of adultery, annulment, and divorce can be heard here and there. People treat such bonds as though they were cheap and could be found everywhere. What people don’t know is that by breaking the bonds, they break each other. They destroy the promises made and, therefore, they destroy each other.

When a man and a woman are united by marriage, this means that they have promised each other a relationship that shouldn’t go away sooner or later, but should rather stay forever. The moment the man falls for another woman, he breaks the promised relationship. Beside the broken relationship is the broken heart of the woman with whom he wed.

The effects of broken relationships aren’t good at all. In fact, many have considered them tragedies. Women have committed suicides due to their husbands’ infidelities. Husbands have become drunkards and hot-tempered men because of their wives’ foolishness of leaving them. Opportunities for children to have complete families have been snatched away from them.

Relationships aren’t only made between people. They can also be made by God and men. When a man decides to leave God for the worldly pleasures enticed by the devil, he breaks the relationship between him and his Creator. This is the most tragic of all broken relationships. Imagine a son disowning his own father and mother. Such is the case of the man who leaves God. Saying good-bye to God would only mean saying good-bye to eternal life.
