Think Twice Before Breaking Up

Something happened. You don’t know why it happened, when it happened and how it happened. But it did.

Passionate lovers once, you both couldn’t wait till the day is over to jump into the bed.
Now, you are just two exhausted people, who still wait for the end of the day, to jump into the bed and “passionately” fall asleep. Without exchanging a word.

You used to share your dreams once. Now, all you share is your electricity bills.

You never argued over a movie, a pizza to order or who’s making the dishes. It didn’t matter as long as you had a chance to spend a few moments together.

But now? You sit in different rooms, watching TV (yes, you’ve got a separate TV set for each family member. You are still a family, aren’t you?). No more dinners together, no more telling each other how the day was. You share the routine, that’s all. The dull, inevitable routine.

Is this how you see your life in the next n years?

Isn’t it a shame to see your energy and passion drying out, and apathy taking over?

Is it about your relationship or is it about you? This is the question you should be asking yourself.

How long have you and your partner been together? Psychologists say, there are “relationship crisises”, which occur on the 3rd, 5th, 7th and so on, years. I’m rather skeptical about that. Yes, there must be some sort of milestones, like in everything- your job, children growing up, parents grow old, relationships are worn out slowly. But the fact that time passes by and emotions lose they vividness, does not mean you should neglect yourself or the person you’re still spending your time with. There are no excuses for that.

Be fair with yourself.

What have you been doing to make it work? What have you invested in your relationship to breath life into it? What have you tried to improve and change to make it better?

Don’t blame it on the other guy. Don’t blame it on your partner, your mother or the neighbour’s dog.

It starts with you.
