To Change or Not to Change The Name After Wedding?
This question is not just for brides, but more and more a question for both brides and grooms.
This question is not just for brides, but more and more a question for both brides and grooms. Due to the many questions concerned the decision can be difficult. Consider some of the topics: (where husband and wife should have the same last name) sense of identity as a person and family, future family relationships, future children, personal preferences and travel out of the country. A friend of mine told me that her husband wanted her to have the same last name, to have consideration for others – so people do not be surprised if they were just dating or married (if they do not wear their rings). Another friend of mine warned that if her sister was with her husband while traveling in a foreign country (I do not know where they could be present at the time!) The concierge gave them trouble if they get a room together because she had not wanted the same last name and because they do not speak the language, they had a hard time explaining that they were married. However, there is a contingency plan for women that do not change their names once they are married to choose. Some reasons are: they have a name for himself in a career that it would be too expensive and too difficult to change established, they want to continue their family line, it pulls the couple that the husband is the one to change his name.
While the procedures involved in changing your name can be time consuming, with the name you want is worth the trouble. If you are unsure how to change your name, see the list of options below to decide which names to change (or not) is best for you.
When should I change my name?
You can prepare the forms at any time before or after marriage. We recommend that you save all your important e-mails in the few months up to your wedding, giving you a comprehensive list (with addresses) of all the places you need to have to be notified. You can not edit any of the forms until you receive your marriage certificate (after marriage). We recommend that the forms file for your honeymoon (especially if you leave the country) to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience.
I’m getting married in a few months, what must I do to get my marriage certificate?
Be sure to your town hall, with your fiance, not earlier than 30 days before your wedding (this varies from state to state). Not all city halls offer marriage certificates, we recommend that you call the city hall ahead of time to figure out where to go. There you will be asked to fill out forms and take an oath before they give you a provisional certificate. There is no blood test required. You should use this form to bring to your wedding (or other arrangements to meet with your officiator), and ask your officiator and a witness to sign it. Once this is completed, you can receive in your official marriage certificate.
