Trust in a Relationship

by Happy Toes in Relationships, January 4, 2009

Happenings in a relationship.

Trust in a relationship can be easily destroyed and difficult to recreate. Some individuals that decide to work on recreating their trust only experience difficulty. Others who work on recreating their trust experience success. Sadly, it only takes one careless action to break the trust in a relationship. Many individuals choose to act carelessly and avoid the consequences that later result. When these consequences become reality, he or she who has broken the trust experiences sadness and guilt.

The most common careless action that brakes trust in a relationship is infidelity. If you are the victim of a broken trust relationship, the first thing you need to do is figure out what is best for you. Of course you can move forward and work on rebuilding that trust you once had. However, you really need to make sure that rebuilding that trust is what you really want. That means letting go of what has happened and forgiving this individual that has hurt you. Many individuals feel confident that they can do this and later experience failure, regret and anger. Therefore, you really need to make sure that you are capable of rebuilding this broken trust in your relationship.

I have met couples that have worked on recreating their trust and couples that have called it quits after a careless action. I have found that couples who have called it quits are now happier and in stronger healthier relationships. Couples that have decided to stay together constantly find themselves dwelling on the past and questioning their relationship. However, as I earlier mentioned there are couples that have experienced success after damage has been done. Individuals in these relationships constantly provide his or her partner with reassurance and assure him or her that they will not engage in another careless action. Before they do this they also provide their partner with a sincere apology for their careless behavior. These successful couples have also visited a family marriage therapist to guide them while continuing their lives together. The family marriage therapist also questions why infidelity may have happened in the first place to avoid it from recurring.

Therefore, it is crucial that you ask yourself what you want to do about a broken trust relationship issue. It is important to consider your options and needs when deciding your next step. Remember, what you want matters the most and you deserve to have trust in your relationship. If you find yourself clueless in a situation like this, seek guidance before you commit or choose to leave.
