What Guys Should Know About Girls

     Christopher defines love and gives examples of how his father loves him. He believes that telling the truth to someone is one way of loving them. As the story progresses, Christopher discovers that his father (Ed) had lied to him not only about his mothers death, but about the death of Wellington as well. Therefore, Christopher believes he cannot live with his father anymore and fears he is in danger. Ed thought that hiding the truth from him would be the best thing to do and to wait until he was older. Except that this would choose to be his downfall because Christopher run’s away. This proves to be significant because it changes Christopher’s character as a whole of whom faces many challenges. Some of which are running away (breaking his daily routines) and dealing with all the noise and people. Christopher copes very well and in the end is changed. He feels like he is brave and can do anything.

     Helping Christopher when he gets into trouble and looking after him are the other two reasons Christopher believes his father loves him. Although his father lied to him, he had done it for the better. Without much reason, Christopher’s mother left her family. Christopher had not known this because Christopher’s father had said that she had died of a heart attack. If his father had told the truth, Christopher would neglect his mother and would not love her anymore; just like Christopher did to his father.

     Also, Christopher’s definition of love as a whole is incorrect. When Amadeus and I tried to locate a real definition of love, we could not find one. Love has an infinite number of definitions, and everyone has a different opinion. Taking care of someone does not mean you love them. Let’s say we do our community service at a hospital, looking after people in need. It does not mean we love them to take care of them. If one of your friends at school is getting bullied, and you help them when they get into trouble that does not mean loving them. Although, you cannot expect Christopher to know what love is. As he said earlier in the book, he is unable to imagine things that haven’t happened.
