You must have heard of two young individuals coming from affluent families who were married  and suddenly broke up resulting to an early marriage failure.

This is a common scenario among couples whose relationship was marred by certain intentions to benefit from the affluence of the other and when  suddenly things did not seem good contrary to what was expected they ended in eventual separation. As one writer superbly put it, “the marriage is deprived of its fullness because of the property issue and the privilege of parenthood is abandoned in exchange of material wealth”.

For those who are planning to venture into marital relation here are some practical tips to make their marriage survive through efficient material demarcations.

Before the marriage, establish certain property relation, by way of a pre-nuptial agreement, wherein you can agree with your partner the rules to govern when it comes to properties, money and wealthto be  brought by each one into the marriage. This sounds very practical, especially to those couples who belong to the privileged few, to avoid financial or property conflicts in the future. When a certain property relation has been agreed, this will serve as the rule to govern between them in relation to their respective properties. The usual rule is ” what is mine is yours and yours is mine “ may not at all times be practical and reasonable as one of the partner may be infatuated of marrying the other primarily  for material gain only. And when nothing or less is benefited, just like what the old poet said; “love flies out of the window when the pocket is empty”.

It is best that would- be couple should decide ahead what property or properties should be declared conjugal and what should remain as separate and private  from the rest. by then on, not only the well-off partner is protected but the less affluent partner as well, from suspicion of marrying the other for convenience.

While property relation is an integral incidence of marriage, but newly-wed couples would always put into their minds the solemn vows they swore, ” in richness and in  poorer”, as vinculum, to one another, regardless of their financial situation in the future.
