Why It is Imperative to Have a Life of Your Own

Relationships are meant to last a life time, but unfortunately, sometimes they don’t.

Of a truth, relationships are meant to last a life time, but unfortunately, sometimes they don’t. For one reason or another, a relationship may break-up. It is better when this happens at the formative stages (dating), because at this stage deep commitments may not have been made nor real intimacy built. However, at any stage a relationship suffers breakage; someone suffers emotional pains and torture. But your life must continue. This is very important. I have someone who almost lost her mind because she was jilted, the man that promised to marry her, woke up one afternoon and called off the engagement. And she saw it to mean the end of the world. It took psychiatric doctors to restore her to normalcy. That was absolutely unnecessary.

If you have a life of your own, you will not hinge your happiness on someone else. You will not owe your existence to another person. If you have a life, you will not build your life around your fellow being, because he can change at any time. Those that have a life don’t make marriage a do or die affair. People with life do not allow others to run their life.

It is imperative that you have a life of your own, because if you don’t, you will discover that even after you have got married, you will hardly find true happiness. Why? Because you will depend so much on your partner, that he will be so bored with your expectations. You will expect him to pet you, fulfill you, entertain you, complete you or even build a world of your own when you got all it takes to design one yourself. There is hardly any human who can completely satisfy another. Only the Creator Himself can satisfy all your expectations.

Men and women with a life of their own are naturally attractive to others. It has been proven that people who exude confidence, stability and a passion for living will naturally attract others to themselves. Your capacity for building a relationship will be greatly enhanced, because you have something to contribute to making it succeed. Unlike those who go into a relationship expecting their partner to be all in all. They end up not getting what they want, and they are frustrated. If you have a life of your own, you will ask for what you can contribute to make the relationship work. That way, you will not put undue pressure or unreasonable expectations on your partner.

This is not stressed enough among young people today. Nor is it explained how to do that. If you cannot get along without another person then who are you? You have no identity and aren’t genuinely inwardly happy. But then, most do not know their creator to know what their identity is.
