Why Women Have Commitment Fears

Marriage is a serious decision and even though many people marry not because they love their partner but because there are other reasons, such as money, pregnancy, pressure from peers and relatives, there are millions of people who run away from marriage and any other type of commitment.

Traditionally it used to be men who had commitment fears but now times are changing and many ladies see that they are much better off when single and free than when they have made the commitment to a man they don’t love or who doesn’t deserve them.

Negative Past Experiences Can Lead to Commitment Fears

“Burned once, twice shy”. As far as commitment fears are concerned, this can’t be more than true. A past love affair, which ended bitterly can be an eye-opener and quite naturally many people will refrain from doing the same mistake twice.

On the other hand, it makes no sense to turn down good offers only because of negative experiences in the past but if the offers aren’t good anyway, then there is nothing to lose.

Career and Personal Development Matter More than Family

This is usually true for younger ladies but it is not an exception to find successful executives in their 30s or 40s, who have made up their mind that having a boyfriend is OK but getting married is not. There is no need to mention Britney Spears and the like, whose careers were ruined by unhappy marriages.

Today many ladies have a career and when this career is fulfilling, it is easy to understand why they won’t give it up just to get married to a loser they don’t love. But even if the guy isn’t a loser, no woman who is really successful in her career will quit just to become a housewife.

If it is possible to balance life and career, then commitment is not impossible, but such a balance is not easy to achieve.

Single Ladies Do Pretty Well on Their Own

Even when women don’t have a fulfilling career, there are hardly many ladies, who dream of being tied to a loser. Being single has its benefits and if you can achieve more, when you are free, it is obvious that commitment is not the better option.
