Abortion

The Catholic Church’s point of view, as well as my own personal point of view.

The Catholic Church believes that abortion is wrong unless it endangers the mother’s life in such as way that it would result in her death. Also, the Church supports that intimacy is for married couples, and that must be open to new life that may come about in the result. This means that the use of condoms, medications, surgery, or any other means is not supported and looked down upon the Church. In cases where the couple is not married, the Church still stands firm in its belief that abortion is wrong unless it endangers the mother’s life. Regardless how the mother got pregnant the Church still views abortion the same. The Catholic Church believes that all life is sacred and holy; you should not destroy or harm it. There is no way around this unless the mother is endangered with her life.

What currently happens in today’s society is that abortion is happening regardless how strongly the Catholic Church and other groups oppose it. People are also using means of artificial ways to avoid getting pregnant or conceiving a child. There is not stopping this from happening in today’s world even if you make a law on this and enforce it strictly. If you were to do so, people would move to a location where it is legal or do it regardless. This would make abortion more dangerous then what it is now. So really you cannot stop this and if you try it will only make it more dangerous for abortion to occur safely. So instead of one life being in danger you will get two lives that are in danger.

I believe that abortion should remain legal but more strict measures should be put in place. Either the mother should be endangered with her life or you are stopping the birth before the heart is functional. I would also rather support the use of artificial means to prevent being conceived to stop the opportunity of abortions in the first place. My reasoning behind that is no matter what you do people will continue to do what is against the Church’s ideal concept of conceiving a child. I would rather stop the potential abortions and enforce strict laws to help make abortion less likely to kill the mother in the process then trying to do the impossible. You also have to respect that not everyone has the same religion and their religion might have a different point of view. Even on top of that, you have to respect the other person’s right to their body. During the months that the mother is pregnant the child forming inside her is similar to that of a parasite. I do not view this is a negative way but it reinforces the fact that it effects the mother’s body very much. So my opinion of abortion is that it should become stricter then it is today but remains as an option due to rights and respect of other individuals.
